Exercise prescription is an essential part of successfully rehabilitating and preventing lower limb injuries. Most lower limb injuries are caused through overuse such as increasing exercise frequency suddenly or having a period of deconditioning from sport and then starting back suddenly. This can result in tissue overload and the tissue being unable to adapt to the increased strain placed upon it, resulting in injury.
Our Specialist Musculoskeletal Podiatrists are experts at formulating bespoke plans to target weak and injured tissues and overall movement dysfunction that may be contributing to your injury.
Your tailored prescription will comprise of the following components;
- Type of exercise
- Intensity
- Duration
- Frequency
- Rate of progression (when you should progress to the next stage)
- Return to activity schedule
- Footwear advice
Your Podiatrist will assess your tolerance to the exercises and demonstrate the correct techniques to ensure that you get full benefit from your programme. They will also monitor you throughout and reassess you at each follow up. Typically, patients will see results over 6 sessions of exercise prescription with our Musculoskeletal Podiatrist which usually take place at 1-2 week intervals.
Exercise prescription sessions are often combined with other therapies to optimise the outcome of treatment:
Common conditions that respond well to exercise prescription include;
- Plantar Fasciitis/Fasciopathy
- Achilles Tendinitis/Tendinopathy
- Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (Shin Splints)
- Calf pain
To experience the benefits of Exercise Prescription, you will first need to book an Initial Musculoskeletal Consultation with Video Gait Analysis with one of our Specialist Musculoskeletal Podiatrists.
