Shin Splint Conditions

Our Musculoskeletal Podiatrists are highly experienced at solving leg pains and building up your strength and confidence so that you feel empowered to achieve you goals again.

Shin splints is a “lay term” which refers to exercise induced leg pains. Our Musculoskeletal Podiatrist’s are expert at differentiating between the different causes of exercises induced leg pains where sufferers most commonly present with:

Medial tibial Stress Syndrome which is normally described as pain and tenderness along the inside of the lower leg which eases off with activity and worsens following rest.

Tibial Stress Fracture which can often develop as a result of untreated medial tibial stress syndrome and prevents sufferers being able to bear weight fully through the leg. There is usually local swelling and very specific pain and tenderness on the leg bone.

Both conditions are highly prevalent in runners and those who are at increased risk include: females, military personnel and individuals with extremely flat or high arched foot types.

Less common manifestations of exercise induced leg pains are:

  • Popliteal Arterial Entrapment Syndrome
  • Biomechanical Overload Syndrome
  • Lumbar Radiculopathy
  • Compartment Syndrome

Our specialist Podiatrists will conduct a thorough Leg Pain Initial Consultation to determine the cause of your leg pains and provide you with an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

We got a same day appointment. Mike had fungal nail infection, an open wound and painful Athlete’s foot. These were all greatly improved after the initial visit. It felt quite miraculous! Not cheap but well worth the money.

I went to Active Step after trying over the counter products as well as other podiatrists for years while my condition was getting worse instead of better. The service I got at Active Step couldn't have been any better and I've just been discharged successfully after 12 months of treatment. Jim, Zoe, Sophie and the rest of the team are not only highly professional, but also very personable and I cannot recommend them enough.
