A Remembrance Day Message 2020

Remembrance Day is particularly significant to me as a Podiatrist who comes from a Navy family where both my parents served in the Royal Navy. My Mother was a Wren and my Father was a Chief Petty Officer, Aircraft Artificer (Airframes and Engines) who completed a full 22 years of service mostly in the local area working at Daedalus and Collingwood.

I myself have also had the privilege of working for the Ministry of Defence within the Regional Rehabilitation Unit of HM Naval Base, Portsmouth where I treated serving personnel in the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force for various lower limb musculoskeletal injuries as part of a multi disciplinary team.

ActiveStep Social Media and DesignDuring my time working in HM Naval Base, Portsmouth I had the opportunity to work with some of the best Physios, Sports Med Doctors and Exercise Rehabilitation Instructors in the world, all of which play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating injuries in our serving armed forces and returning them to active duty or to life outside if they are no longer able to serve.

On this Remembrance day we pay tribute to all those who are currently serving in the armed forces at home or overseas and to all those who have previously served. Also, to the many who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. #wewillrememberthem

Also to my friends who play such a critical role in rehabilitating the injured and returning them to active duty or life on the outside.

Physios: Phillipa Kadinopoulos, Graham Physio, Catriona Hopkins, Simon Bevan Davies, Sally Lynch, Andy Milner, Mark Temple. Sports Doc: Jeff Foster. and Exercise Rehabilitation Instructors: Stuart Mantle and Dan Fallon

If you would like to donate to the Royal British Legion this Remembrance Day, my friend Dan Fallon who recently served as a Leading Physical Trainer and Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor in the Royal Navy is undertaking 11 Marathons in 11 Days using a Ski Erg!

He is an absolutely incredible person with stoic determination and I’ve no doubt he will smash this challenge and raise much needed funds that will help support veterans of our armed forces.
